2005 -Historic Lewes Cat Society Awarded Grant from Delaware Community Foundation

Society receives grant from Lane McAlister Fund
The Society has received a $7000 grant from the Lane McAlister Fund via the Delaware Community Foundation. We were so excited to receive the funds which we will put to good use on the Kitty Clinic Mobile Van for the spay/neuter clinics. The Delaware Community Foundation manages charitable funds established by individuals, businesses and organizations and awards grants to nonprofit agencies that serve the needs of Delawareans. For further information about the Delaware Community Foundation, its grantmaking programs, planned giving services and other ways to support its mission, contact the Foundation at 302) 571-8004 or visit http://www.delcf.org. We also have received a grant for our low income spay/neuter program from Faithful Friends in Wilmington. All of this will help us continue our clinics on the Van. Since we started the Clinic at the farm in May 2004 and the inauguration of the Mobile Van in May 2005, we have spay/neutered and given rabies and distemper shots to 1168 cats and vaccinated 154 dogs. We have place and adopted 125 kittens and cats. We hope with this grant and the continued generosity of the public we will be able to continue our work in Sussex County.

2005 - Fundraiser at the Roadhouse Restaurant at Midway on Hwy One

Thank you all so much, the event was a great success.
The Roadhouse Restaurant was kind enough to offer us Monday, 14 November all day. Members of our Society were there to greet our guests from 6-8pm with friends from Kristin's Care and their children have donated a basket for us to raffle for an addition fundraiser. The basket will have goodies for pets and their families from Kristin's Care and the Society. We had a wonderful turn out and made $376 for the Society. We had over 50 people who came for dinner and many of our volunteers helped with the event along with Kristin and the employees of Kristin's Care. We will be selling raffle tickets for this basket at our clinics and we will do the drawing soon. Please come and see the basket at our clinic on 17 December and do a little last minute Christmas shopping. We hope you will come by for your last minute shopping and take a chance on the basket. Please call for additional information, Vivian 645-1575 or 228-4881

We also registered with the Oreck vaccum cleaner shop. They will note your purchase if you mention the Society when you purchase anything at the store near the Salvation Army, Hwy One. They will send a check for 10% of your purchase to the Society once a month. So please mention us if you shop at Oreck's.

2005 -Community Outreach Program for the Children & Elderly

Society Kittens and Dog will visit day care centers, schools and nursing homes
The Historic Lewes Cat Society will continue its Community Outreach Program for the Childrean & Elderly this winter by offering to bring our Society kittens and dog to visit at day care centers, schools and nursing homes in our area upon request. Our first visit took place at Kristin's Care on Hwy One in Lewes. Thelma and Louise our 8-week-old kittens visited with the children from 9-1030am. We all had a wonderful time with some of the children holding and playing with the kittens and asking all kinds of adoreable questions. We had an opportunity to teach the children about the value of having a loving creature as their companion in life. Some of the children had a companion at home and others did not. We believe the children came away with an appreciation of these loving creatures and how careful they must be with them. We only hope that they will remember as they get older and learn to appreciate these creatures in their lives. Our second visit was at Sussex Central High School for the English as a second Language and this time we also brought our rescue border collie - Abby. She had a wonderful time as did Thelma and Louise. The class loved them even though we could not communicate verbally, they held and loved the kittens and Abby watch in her Reindeer Antlers. Our next guest appearance will be at the Nassau Senior Center on the 24th of January. We are looking forward to sharing our loved ones with them. We presented Abby, Polly and Tux II to 12 seniors at the Nassau Senior Center today. We arrived about 1230 and the seniors started arriving at 1pm. We were very happy with the turnout and there interest in our Society and what we do at our clinics They were kind enough to stay with us till about 230pm when we had coffee and cookies. Several seniors donated funds to our clinic which we need desperately since we lost our low income grant from Faithful Friends because they have run out of money. We wish to thank the Staff of the Nassau Senior Center for inviting us and to the Seniors that came. Thank you for your support. We hope others in the Community will invite us to share our charges with them. Please call us, and check this site for more infomation of places we will be visiting.
